I have explored a few places in DC though. I traveled through the rough and tumbled Rock Creek Park; stopped and snapped some pictures.
Let’s see, what else……..OHHHHH, I went to the Kennedy Center for a concert and it was amazing; followed up by breakfast at midnight.
Ozomatli was fantastic. If you haven’t heard of them, then are missing out. Talk about mashing up different genres of music and coming up with an amazing sound. Think the fusion of urban-Latino- hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga. That is Ozomatli.
Summer Restaurant Week (RW) is set for 15 – 21 August and I have three reservations. I swore after the winter RW that I wouldn’t do more than two but I had an inside scoop on the dates and got reservations before the masses. I snagged three restaurants in the Top 20 out the Top 100 in DC; if it weren't for RW, I couldn’t afford to go to these places, which is why I’m supper excited and will have to join the Jenny after this one.
8/16: CityZen (Mandarin Oriental Hotel) – Modern American meets Posh Spice.
8/17: 1789 Restaurant (Close to Georgetown) – Modern American meets the Basque country
8/20: The Oval Room – Modern American meets White House, Italian, Mosaic, and Asian flavors
Yes, I’m a foodie and food snob. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing better than pancakes from Silver Diner at 11pm or Chiles nachos (I do love those). I may not be a chef, reviewer, or a culinary expert but I know good food and I demand good service. I’m a good cook, not a great cook; I love food with flavor and that gut punch I get from the aroma. My favorite place in the city isn’t even on the Top 100 list; so ranking’s don’t mean that much. Except during RW, I'm determined to get to as many on the Top 100 as possible.
Vidalia is the perfect example; highly overrated. The food was good, not great, and the service sucked so badly that I refuse to ever go there again.
My absolute favorite restaurant in DC is Belga CafĂ©. Yes, the service is hit or miss but the food is amazing. Maybe it’s just my taste buds but I adore the food there and their passion fruit sorbet makes have “a moment”.
That's it for now. Oh, did I mentioned Mommy & Sister are coming to visit in November? No, well they are and me being an over organized anal retentitve planner has everything already planned and reservations made. I know, run on sentence but had to be done!
