To Sum It Up - 2009

What a crazy year 2009 was and I didn’t end up where I thought I’d be or where I had planned to be as of New Years Day 12 months ago but I’m happy. Happier than I thought I’d be and pretty satisfied with life.

In January 2009 I was sure I was going to be let go from my firm (lack of work thing) and be moving back to Bakersfield with my parents. I knew I wouldn’t get unemployment after being on Guam and was scared out of my mind. I was planning an entire career change and other thoughts about things I don’t want to get into.

A dear friend of mine stepped in and stepped up to plate. She took my resume and sent it off to a number of friends within the firm. A few weeks later I was moving. Literally, I was informed we got the contract on Jan 30; Feb 2 I had an apartment in VA, Feb 5 the movers took my stuff; I wanted one last weekend on Guam with my friends and family so I flew to Virginia on Feb 9.

I swore up and down when I joined my firm (7.5 yrs ago) that I would never go the East coast and be at “The Mother Ship” but here I am.

It was fate because the apartment worked out and so did the job. At least so far it has. I’ve met so many nice people and have really enjoyed touring Washington DC. I even flew Dee out for a weekend and she loved it. She was able to meet some of my friends too.

OHHHH, and to top it off, two of my best girl friends from Guam are moving/moved here. Kim arrived in September and Jessica should be here in spring; both at the same work location (base) as me.

I made a few trips too; nothing international, I went to Newport, RI and Boston one weekend, Ohio to see Sarah, and California twice. I've spent time with my family and my friends. I couldn't ask for more.

I have to admit, I miss going to Okinawa but I’m excited about traveling to other places. If it all works out, I’ll be in Greece 2011. If not, I can wait.
