Deni & Dee in Virginia & Washington DC

Before I go into our itinerary I just want to say this....we had a great time. I went to museums and other places I haven't been to before and I was able to introduce the fam to my friends and colleagues. Mom was thrilled to be able to put faces to names.

Oh did I mentioned I also shared my favorite restaurants! No, oops!

Mom loved her birthday dinner at Tosca and she loved the company too. We wondered into LaTasca and had great Tapas. I've never walked this much. We tracked it and on the "least" walking day, we still walked 4 miles. I need a pedi and another three days of sleep!

Thursday (11/3/11): Dee arrived late at night

Friday (11/4/11): Mom arrived late, no sightseeing for anyone.

Saturday (11/5/11): We went to the National Cathedral to see the aftermath from the earthquake and then to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the largest Roman Catholic church in the United States and North America, and is one of the ten largest churches in the world. Afterwards we went to Tosca (Northern Italian) restaurant in Northwest Washington DC. Tosca is the top rated Italian restaurant in DC and #33 in the Top 100.

Sunday (11/6/11): We started out with breakfast in Shirlington at the Carlyle; ordering crab cakes, French toast with eggs, bacon, and home fries. Then we headed to the museums on Independence Ave. We only made it to the National Air & Space and the National American Indian Museums. We ate lunch at the American Indian Museum, Indian tacos.

Monday (11/7/11): We drove into DC (scary at times) and went to President Lincoln's Cottage in Northwest DC. We came back into town, found parking and did some shopping at Forever 21 and H&M. Then we did a photo shoot outside the White House, and walked to Wasabi for a sushi dinner.

Tuesday (11/8/11): We started off by taking the metro to Rossyln station and then took the bus into Georgetown. Ask Dee about the metro that is exactly 194.8feet of escalator. Then we walked the streets of Georgetown, ate lunch at Clydes, found the exorcist stairs, and bought dessert at Georgetown cupcakes

Wednesday (11/9/11): We went to Arlington cemetery and found that the tourmobile wasn’t operating so we hiked to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We watched the changing of the guard and then witnessed two wreath presentations. From there we took the metro to Chinatown and Mom bought a cute little vase in my favorite Asian store. We found LaTasca and ate a few tapas!! Finally we made our way to Eastern Market for happy hour at Molly Malone’s were Trina’s colleagues joined us for drinks.

Thursday (11/10/11): Mom and Trina stayed behind and did grocery shopping, nails, ran errands, and dropped Dee off on Constitution Ave. Dee went to the American History Museum and Natural History Museum. Then she navigated her way back to the Pentagon City mall via the metro all by herself.

Friday (11/11/11): We did some last minute shopping at Macy’s then went to lunch in Crystal City to meet my Honey; then we went to the Holocaust Museum. We weren’t allowed to take pictures inside the museum. Then we metro’d back to the mall and drove to Galae Thai for dinner.

Saturday (11/12/11): On this day we drove to the Hillwood Museum and Eastern Market. To get to the museum we had to drive through Rock Creek Park and were able to see all the colors on the trees. Eastern Market is a mix of flea market and open food market. You would need an entire day at both places we went too. We walked about 7 miles this day.

Sunday (11/13/11): Everyone flew back to California
