2008 - Relay for Life

What a great Memorial Day weekend. The fight against cancer touches all of us. This weekend was the annual Relay for Life here on Guam. The Booz Team came out as they could; we had several people out ill, one with an injury, and of course all of us were tired. However, we still had a good turn out for our team. The event itself had a great turn out and everyone enjoyed the time we had to show our support. I swear it was double the people from last year.

My firm is a National sponsor; this year I was the team captain and our team was small but mighty! Jezz and I did a little ceremony; sort of a changing of the guard. Jezz was the captain last year; so I gave her a floral lei to show how much I appreciate her. I also got one for myself but decided my room mate Anna deserved it more than me; she was in pain but still managed to hold it together. Last year, it was pouring down rain. However, this year, we had rain earlier in the day but not during the relay.

Our canopy was next to the Air Force Med Group. As it turns out, one of my friends was the team captain. I knew Hazel back in 1989 when we were both stationed at Onizuka AFB, CA. There was a group of us who used to hang out and party a lot. Hazel is now, MSgt Wong, and getting ready to retire. This is hard for me to believe since I would be slated to retire next year, had I stayed in.

The Guam event is only 12 hrs but I'm exhausted. My feet, hips, and legs are hurting; however, I wouldn't trade the pain for anything.
