acadiana - August 16, 2012

Probably the best meal I’ve had during the past three years of Restaurant Week (RW). We dined at Acadiana Thrusday evening and the food was exceptional. I’ve heard so many wonderful things about this restaurant and it definitely met my expectations.

There were three of us and each of us ordered different courses and we sampled each other’s meal. Again, the food was exceptional and so the décor and presentation.

Appetizer:

-Classic Turtle Soup with traditional garnishes, dry sherry splash

-Smoked Chicken & Andouille Sausage Gumbo

-Roasted corn and crap soup

Entrée:

-Snapper Amandine with roasted potatoes, green beans, grapes, lemons, almond emulsion - incredible

-Crab crusted rainbow trout shrimp stuffed tomato, swiss chard, champagne butter – very good

-Cornmeal crusted catfish fingerling potatoes, house made bacon, arugula, smoked tomato court bouillon – very good

Dessert:

-Bananas Foster Bread Pudding – absolutely incredible!

-Orange Vanilla Creme Brulee – very good with not too much orange

-Mississippi Mud Mousse Cake – very good and very rich

The roasted corn & crab soup was amazing. Not too sweet and there was enough crab to satisfy my craving. I ordered the Crab crusted rainbow trout (see the common theme) and while it was very good, I really wish I had ordered the Snapper because my one bite of it left my mouth watering. Not that the Trout wasn’t wonderful, it was, but the Snapper was incredible.

Lastly, the dessert and OH MY is all I can say. The Bananas Foster Bread Pudding is a must…must…must…because you will have a “moment”. I’m still dreaming about that dessert.

I will go back and pay whatever they want for the Snapper and Bread Pudding. They could have my first born if I had one. Yes I’m exaggerating but it really was that good.
